air intake question

ok every one says that its not worth it to get a short ram intake for 5th generations because it doesn't really help anything and it cuts down on your accel. so the best thing to do is to get a drop in pan filter(k&n of course).... what i dont under stand is why a short ram would cut down on your accel, and only give you a little better top end.. and wouldn't a heat plate blocking your filter from the hot help anything

so to bypass this. does any body know where i can get a cai for a 5th gen. the only one i have found is from induction dynamics (some place in canada) that are way over priced or is the only thing left to do is make my own w/ a bypass valve
