Celicas are good cars. How long they last depends on how well it will be/ has been maintained. The 1zz-fe motors are decent motors, common problems i see with then are the tensioners leaking oil and needing a new o-ring, front cover needing replaced. Check the trans fluid, if it is red then its fine, if its darker with black particles then you know its doing its job, but its time to get a flush and refill. Ive seen upwards of 200k miles on a 1zz, and it still purs. So you should get plenty more miles with proper upkeep.
I just checked the oil at every fill up, and kept it between the marks. The car ran great, with a 120,000.....until Nov 20th 2010.....well it still ran great, just didn't look so good.

if maintained a decent car, as stated get the "right one" and with maint records. the problem with this model is appeal to youth. unfortunately the youth often is broke, poorly maintained. In my shop these usually come in ragged out for a last chance repair before the car crusher, as memory serves I have seen the cyl. heads off this model more than any other.
but who knows? if the price is right and everything appears in order you dont have much to lose,
a grand or 2, right?
I bought my 2000 GT Auto 6 years ago and it's still going. I'm almost at 150k miles, almost 90k of them mine. The only thing I have to consistently get fixed is the oxygen sensor. Seems to go out once a year.
