question about 3s-ge

hi guys,i have celica '93 2.0 16v 165hp and my engine is broken. So i want to ask if i can use a celica ('89 2.0 16v 140hp) block(equipped with its water and oil pump, crankshaft and pistons) and a head from 2G 3s-ge(my engine). Is it any differences between 2G 3s-ge and 3G 3s-ge blocks? Is it any negative sides of this swap

While the blocks might be the same cast iron blocks of the same size, bore and stroke, etc., there will be differences in other things between generations (dropped using T-VIS for the second gen, for example) that means it might not be practical or reliable to do that. Much simpler to find a complete 3S-GE and drop that in.

His plan could work, but there would be a pronounced drop in power. The 1g 3S-GE is somewhat lower compression stock-for-stock than the 2g is... But if he just wants to swap the shortblock, he'll be fine. New head gasket is all it would take if he wanted to go super spartan on it, though I'd prefer to just do a complete rebuild of the stocker engine. Build it to do ~200hp and call it good... 10.2:1 compression Wiseco pistons on Eagle rods and 5S crank (if you can source them in Bulgaria)

For the rebuild or for the spartan shortblock swap?

For the rebuild, see if you can contact Eagle and Wiseco (www.eaglerod.com and http://www.wiseco.com/ respectively) and ask about performance conrods (Eagle) and hi-comp pistons (Wiseco) and if they are available, see if they are willing to ship to Bulgaria. A 5SFE crankshaft will be harder... I'm fairly certain that the 5S was a USDM-only engine, and crankshafts are very hard to swap... But Eagle and Wiseco both make products to suit both applications.

You'd be best off getting a complete gasket kit (sorry, I don't have any recommendations) and either stock-replacement rods and pistons if you're going for longevity... But if you don't mind running only high-grade fuel and perhaps losing 20k miles overall, you could order the Eagle/Wiseco combo specced for a 10.2:1 compression ratio in a second generation 3S-GE block with a stock 3S-GE crankshaft... Easy 180hp, maybe 200hp depending on factory fuel maps.

Sorry if I'm making no sense, I'm very tired. Shoot me a pm if you need something explained.
