Boom !!!

So, out lastnight with the club for a cruise. After driving for approximately 30 minutes we parked in a lot. After sitting for 10 minutes we decide to go again, during the line up process I gave my car a couple of shot of gas. When I removed my foot from the pedal and the rpms came down (they weren't high) there was a loud BOOM/POP sound. Now, the car has NEVER done this before and it kinda took me by surprise, I shut the car off and rolled it back from that spot to se if there were any fluids, checked the exhaust/intake manifolds and cat covertor, no cracks or anything. Now, excess fuel in the exhaust was mentoned, backfiring was mentioned as was detination, but everyopne said it was too loud for those.

Any ideas or anyone have anything similar happen.

I would suggest someone setting off fireworks for the 4th, but seeing as how you're in canada that seems less likely. The reason I mention this is last night I heard what sounded like my CV joint clicking but it turned out to be kids setting off black cats nearby.
