Question 1994 Celica GTS Specs?

I found a good deal on a 94 celica gts manual w/ 119k just curious if someone could point me in the direction of the specs for this car and if its even worth buying and tuning.

thanks
Jeff

So you need around 225-250HP, probably won't happen without a well sorted turbo setup or a 3SGTE swap. If you're handy and can do most of the work yourself, figure around $4000 for the swap or around $3000 for the turbo setup.

Stock it makes 130HP and 145TQ, weighing around 2600lbs. The engine that came in the GT/GTS models was the 5SFE, shared with the Camry and previous gen Celica. There's been a lot of discussion about the swap and turbo'ing the 5SFE, you can do a search in this forum and the Camry forum.

3sgte can be tuned into a very powerful engine. If you decide to go that route... you will have a lot more aftermarket support than for the 5sfe, and have about 200hp at the crank depending on what generation you get. What do you plan on using the car for?? Just driving? Or do you have certain events you will enter?

ehh just driving - i think the car looks deadly - and its a good deal - so the engine that it has right now is the 5sfe and the one i should put in it is the 3sgte?

Exactly....

There are MR2 and Celica versions.... you will probably want to miss match the engine and tranny though. You will need some adapters to make the RWD MR2 Tranny fit the FWD Celica tranny. Unless you wanna get crazy and just keep the all-trac awd tranny.

In Canada, the gts is nothing more than a US gt. Theres a lot of Canadians on this message board. So things can get confusing sometimes.

You know what? I've always wondered about the actual horsepower ratings. Most people say all 6th generation celica with a 5s pushes out 135 hp. A lot of sights say 94-95 pushes out 130 hp and 96-99 makes 135 hp. Whats correct? Whats incorrect?

The reason for the horsepower discrempencies is cus of California Damn California. Their GTs after 1996 come with different hp ratings; torque is still at 145, but hp is down to 130.

Anyway, goto 6gc.net for more information. (No offense to anywhere here at TN.com)

A turbo setup can be had for as low as 1200; but it'd only net you 220 or so hp; More than that and you're looking at 3000-3500; which isn't bad, because if you're real crazy, you can do a 3sgte swap after that and move all the turbo stuff over.

Here's a couple links to turbo'ing the 5sfe:

No one has EVER done a RWD or an AWD swap into the 6th gen celica chassis. I've heard of one person doing it in europe... but they have easy access to real GT4 parts.

An MR2 tranny won't fit the ST204 chassis, but it's 3sgte engine will. The 6th gen celicas GT transmission works with a 3sgte just fine

Theres a guy in Florida whos done a complete awd conversion.

Also, the mr2 tranny will work in the st204. thats the main tranny people use or prefer to use when doing a 3sgte swap. You just need to modify the tranny to drive the front wheels.

No ones attempting to convert their celica to rwd. But yes, if thats what you ment it by then it won't work.

There was a thread about that florida guy in www.celica.net.

MR2 is basically a FWD setup..... your engine is on your drive tires.... it is a transaxle... it SHOULD work fine.
