00 celica gt-s problem

Hi
I have a 2000 Gt-s with a 1.8 2zz-ge auto trans.
When I hit 3,100 rpms the ign. cuts out like there is a governor on it. Doesn't matter if it's in park or drive any gear 1st 2nd or 3rd it still does it.

The dealer say its a bad trans but I don't understand how that can be when I have this problem in park as well as in gear.

tia

hmm i wonder if your "lift" bolts have anything to do with it.. and if they need replacing..

then again i'm not too certain.. but I do know with the GT-s the commonly need to replace their lift bolts as it does get worn off..

it isn't the lift bolt the worn/broken lift bolt will only make lift weak/inactive but you car will still rev to the redline.

do u have any mods done to your car?
how many miles? have you been up/down shifting quite often?

Hi
Thanks for your reply/help.

There is 130,000 miles on it and it's all OEM, no mods.
The car is driven normal not abused at all.
The only time I notice the problem is on highway pulling out.
City driving for the most part it shifts before I hit 3,100 rpms.

Like a posted before it doesn't matter what gear I'm in if I hit 3,100 it cuts out/ surge's.
I put a timming light and fuel pressure gage on it and drove it. Pressure stays up but the timming light goes out, well really on and off with the beat of the eng surging.
It will even do it in Park.

I'm lost and the dealer is useless.
thanx for any help

Does your car have an inline fuel filter or is it like the corolla's where it's in the tank. If you have an inline filter I'd try changing that if you haven't yet.

The fuel filter is in the tank.
AS in my previous post the fuel pressure doesn't drop, I check it with a gauge.
