Intake is Dirty as Hell

so im deep into my car looking overthings. and im pulling aprt my throttel body and MAN IS IT DIRTY IN THERE!@#%!^

so i need some advice. whats thebest way to clean all that up?

much of the crap in there is from the CPV that runs from the valve cover to the TB, and a bunch is from the EGR (i think)

not positive. any ways. id like to clean out all of the Dirt and Carbon thats in there..

another thing to note was the car ran with a bad airfilter for a long time. (chick who owned it before me)

im going to go back to regular oil soon, car dosent sound so hot with the Mobil1 Synth i put in it..
it also needs Bucket shims done on it.

(old car Bluse )

also putting a small fuel filter between the pcv and the tb helps cut back on the crud

Get 2 can of Throttle body cleaner, follow instruction on bottle. Plus remove vaccum hose one at a time and spary the cleaner in both ends. Put the hose back and go to next one. Make sure you spray into the ICV on the bottom of the TB. After that reset your ECU.

i already have Mobil 1 5w30 Synth in it at the moment..

allright!! update:

Took the throttel body off the car and Drenched it in Carb/Throtel body Cleaner. and then sprayed a ton of it into the intake mainfold and cleaned out all the crap!!

then instaled an inline Small mottor Fuel Filter on the CPV just like Pineapplelaw has on his setup. its a fram filter that came with all the stuff i needed to do it.

and while i was at it i used GUNK's Engine Brite Foam and Deagreaser on the mottor and gave the hole intire bay a good Washing.

now all i need to do is Do a tune up and evrything will be just fine.

Are carb cleaner and TB cleaner the same thing...?

I've always used carb cleaner since we dont get any TB cleaner around here but if I'm doing wrong I'd like to know before I damage something

My dad's a mech. and he always said that I should never used carc cleaner on a tb unless it was a dual cleaner that specified both. But, then again when we were out he used it on the tb and said don't do this! This isn't our car!

Cool

There is no point in filtering the PCV system while the EGR is still active. 99% of the shit in the intake track is burn on, built up exhaust. NOT oil from the PCV system.

If you want that shit to stop building up every few months, you have to block off your EGR system.

To clean it off you need some TB cleaner, and a wire brush. A dremel using stainless steel brushes and a flexible extension work wonders. (stainless steel doesn't spark on Aluminum intake. Feel free to spray it with cleaner, wait a min or two, then hit it with the wire brush while it's still wet)

The pcv filter is good just in case of failure. My wifes honda has a knack of tearing up its pcv. Plus its a good idea, venting always occurs. Why not help keep the air as pure as possible. Definitely doesn't hurt anything & cost is minimal.
