I Toyota's
- Aprox 40 HP difference due to different head (wider angle valves), longer lift cams, different ECU and of course valve Lift, witch you dont have in the regular Toyotas except the Matrix and some top trim Corolla.
- Both engines (1ZZ-FE and 2ZZ-GE) have the same internals, none are forged, only that TRD has developed a S/C for the 1ZZ but I'm pretty sure it's running low boost
- Not sure in the US/Canada but we got both versions here. 6 Speed manual and 4 speed Tip-tronic auto.

Don't think you can get the head and ECU for 1k. A used 1ZZ go for 5k-7k. Engine is too new for used parts. I believe the 1ZZ is VVTi and 2ZZ is VVTLi. By the time you got the head, ECU and wiring harness, you got enough to get a GTS + turbo. I believe GTS got rear disc and GT got rear drum.
Just turbo or SC the GT.

Internals are completly different. 1ZZ has a taller stroke while the 2ZZ has a shorter stroke, but slightly larger bore. The 2ZZ has coated pistons and rods which make them very strong... not exactly forged, but very strong. The 1ZZ is a pretty normal engine.
Differences, GE head VS FE head. Completely different heads, and they don't swap. A frankenstien 1ZZ"GE" will NOT work because the blocks are not identical. Internals are similar enough that you can swap cranks and such, but nothing beyond that. The 2ZZGE utilizes VVTL-i which has cam timing and LIFT. The Lift is what makes a majority of the 40 HP advantage. Other things include compression (11:5:1 vs 10:0:1), true DOHC unlike the FE head which a simgle cam gear drives both cams using a slave gear, and of course... tuning. They are completely different beasts...

OR, Buy a Gen5 Celica with all that money, and make it have close to 350+HP
Car: 2-3k
3sGTE: 1k
Biger Turbo Setup: 2-3k
7 Grand and u got a Screamer.
Or u can buy a Gen7 and Suffer orver priced parts.
your call.. (dont get me wrong, the Gen7's are cool and all, but if u realy want a fast car, buy an old on and spend all that "new car" money under the hood of an old car.. and its like having a new car again.. only faster)
Honestly if u want a faster Celica, Just get a 180HP GTS with the 2zz-GE and the 6speed, its alot of fun to drive, and saves you alot of time efort and headace.. it just cost's more.
