i need to replace the front pads on a 2000 celica gt; was wondering what people recommended

KVR are pretty good.
I like EBC but they don't last.

Dealer or Akebono pro-act ceramic. If you are looking for some performance pads look into the hawk and porterfield pads.

yeah, i'm not looking for uber-performance, just for some options other than bending over for the dealer.

Then go with the akebono pro-act ceramics. www.tirerack.com sells them.

Probably same price though.

was that in response to the ceramic v. carbon comment? it was more of a general question, since they seem to be the ones that come up most often.
