USA Headlight issues on a 85 Cilica GTS Convertable

Hey guys.. Well its been about two and a half weeks.. noone can figure out whats wrong (Havent brought it to a mechanic yet.. too pricey where I live.. last resort)

My problem.. The headlights will not turn on, nor the Brights Light on the dash when the brights are activated...
(The headlights are power)

I brought it to a autostore after we bought new headlight lamps (We had thaught it was that) and they didnt work, So they checked the fuses, they were fine.. So he checked the light Relay and he said that is probably the problem... So he went ahead and ordered the part, but he got it for the wrong year (.. dont know why he didnt ask ..)
And they had no 85's relays in stock anywhere...
So we went over to the other autoshops around town and they cant get them and dont have them either...

So finally, I tlaked to my uncle who works at a body shop, and he got ahold of the piece (I think it was it.) He said that they tried it and it didnt work.. so once I got the car back we called the guy who I bought it from, and he is refering us to a mechanic... But the guy he said to go to costs 60 bucks a hour to look at the car... so I talked to a friend on Yahoo and he said to try some forums and see if they have heard of any similar problems...

Anyone have any suggestions on the cause of this? Could it be wireing?.. :X

Thanks a bunch...

I think your problem is either the actual stalk that actuates the headlight or the wiring.
If it's in the stalk, you may have to remove the ring with all the control stalks on it. Fairly easy to DIY.

Before you check that though, it could be something in the wiring. Check the wiring right where it connects to the rear of the headlight plug. My wiring broke inside the plug and my lights wouldn't work and I couldn't see it until I disassembled the actual plug. Take a look...
