hey i have a friend with a 1990 celica that has a bad starter and i am going to fix it for her but i have never worked on a celica before and its not quite the same as my 240sx. i have searched for this but couldnt find anything, so can someone please help me and tell me where it is located and what i have to do to take it out? thanks in advance.
by the way, i have been thinking about buying an mr2 since my 240 was rearended, anybody have an opinion about them?

Its very easy, you can do it from the top of the car, it may be easier if you pull the airbox. I can't remember if it was 10 or 12mm bolts.

Search the MR2 forums for an answer to your other question, from what I gather they're awesome to drive but you gotta watch out for snap oversteer, boosting mid turn and they don't drift as easily as an FR setup.

when i looked at her car it looked like the starter was behind the motor on the right side right next to a hose, i think an ac hose, is that the starter?

THe starter is on the front of the motor, under the airbox. Its MUCH easier if you remove the air system and the battery. Its only a plug and a few bolts, nothing too difficult.

Yup, take out the entire box and you will have access to it. RE your qestion concerning MR2, those are great car, I have a first gen myself, but it took me a while to learn how to drift with it (back end is too heavy), so if you drifted with your 240, and do plan on drifting with it, it will take some time to adjust

Driver side, right on top of tranny beside exhaust manifold. Kind of under fuse box and battery.
Right behind the tranny dip stick:

I took everything out just to show you
Yea right.

pinapple: thanks for the pic, but what i worked on looked different. i looked all over under the battery and didnt see anything, and found a starter under the intake manifold, i hope it was anyway, had 2 wires going into the bottom of it, and it went right into the tranny, 2 bolts holding it to the tranny. is that a pic of a 1990 celica?

audi man: thanks for the info on the mr2, i was thinking about getting a second gen, 91-93 right? i never realy did any hardcore drifting, mostly wannabe stuff on some curvy roads. i am always afraid of destroying my car worse than it is.

i put in the new starter today and it started just fine. i dont know what type of motor i worked on, but it isnt the one in your pic, the oil dipstick was in the back left corner, and the hole motor seemed to be shifted more forward and down some. thanks for all the help and opinions.
