Does anyone know what the most displacement you can get out ofa 22re is? i know there are companies that makes stroker cranks. what is the maximun safe overbore? i'm trying to build a drag motor, and am trying to get everything out of it.

From what I have heard on a 22R you can bore the thing .080" over and still be fine although that is cutting it close and isn't recommend for forced induction. I beleive the stroker kits require you to bore the cylinders .060 over. I have my 22R bored .040 over and there is still plenty of meat left to bore a little bit more.

we run .080 over on our race car this requires a 94mm piston we are curantly running J&E popups but in the past we have used 94mm mahle pistons from a vw. big bore kit they are less than !/2 the price of J&E. .080 over with a lc. stroker crank will give you around 2.6L

what kind of power are you making with your race engine. i really wanna make some good power out of the 22re and i was also shootin for the stroke and bore method, raise teh compression, and maybe squeeze it a little bit.

we are making around 180hp in the race engine but this is not a stroker, our class rules require a stock crank, stock valve size, one 2 barrel carb. and no porting. so we use big a bore a radical cam and lots of compression. but keep in mind hp. is not all important. we are more concerned with torque and at what rpm. range it is made. this motor makes 160 ft lbs @ 3500 and only verries about to 168ft lbs. at 7000 rpm. we could make more hp but we want a flat torque curve in circle track racing. I have never built a 22r for every for the street but Im sure that you could biuld a 2.6L with a some porting and big valves that would make a reliable 180-190hp at around 6000rpm. and be verry reliable. keep in mind that 180 is a lot of hp. at 6000 rpm these smaller high reving 200+ hp motors don't have nearly the torque that the 22r has. just ask all the ford and nissan racers that we put a lap down every time we race only the toyotas stay on the lead lap.
on another note we are starting a rally car project in a very limited class, this biuld up will have alot more in parells with the street car mods I will keep you all posted on this project.

because i'm looking to make some serious power out of my 22re celica. i'm building it specifically for drag and it's such a torquey motor, i want to keep. everyone always swaps motors in their car because they're afraid of a challenge. but with it stroked/bored to 2.6 with 10.5 CR some good cams and some porting, it should make some good power, right? then i may go for the LC Engineering SC kit, or just give it some juice. also, does anyone know the approximate weight of an 84 celica?

did only the gt-s come with the 22re, or also the gt? because i'm actually not sure which mine is. sad to say... i got it with all the badges ripped off and the reg doesn't even specify. but it's the 22re, brick red, tan/brown interior, the 14 in kinda four spoke wheelsthe fat spoked ones, 5 speed. i was told it's a gts, but i don't even know the differences.

all the 84's came with the same engine/displacement/torque/HP.. the differnces in weight is due to different body styles-ergo-liftback/coupe.all 2.4 ltr w/ 105/hp and 137lb/trq

The way you can tell if it is a GTS or a GT. Look at your rear end, if it is a solid rear end then it is a GT if it is an independent rear suspension then it is a GTS. Also the GTS came with fender flares and the GT did not.

I would think that the rigid rear axle would be best suited for straight line WOT racing than the independent rear suspension...probably stronger

Well the solid rear end isn't that strong. It is a 6.7" and can only handle about 220-240 hp the independent rear suspension one is a 7.5" one and can handle a lot of power infact they are the same differentials as supras.
