to even get close to achieving that goal one option would be to turbo the car. I have read the the most you can pump into a 1.6 is 5-7psi so you will still need to fine tune the rest of the car. then you would have to find a stronger transmission or bulk yours up. But it is achievable I have an st also but it is my daily driver.

Boost or swap. The 7AFE isn't much of a performance engine... boosted... they will make 200 hp with 200 ft lbs of torque.

You would need much more than 7psi to get 200HP out of a 7AFE.

That's true, but consider many Celica guys have shown upwards of 170 whp and 180 ftlbs of torque at the wheels at 8-10 psi (near 200 bhp). 8-10 psi with proper fuel control and tuning is very do-able. All of the 7AFTE builds I've seen that have gone bad were because of lean fuel delivery, which you know eat through pistons like no tomorrow. That's always due to shortcuts, be it the fuel pump, injectors, fuel regulator, simple tuning, or something in between. I think with proper fuel managment... the 7AFE can handle its own under boost. I'd personally swap and go n/a just because I build n/a cars... but it's up to you. Power doesn't mean everything.

Agreed, a lot of it does come down to the static and dynamic CR's as well as good tuning. I can see a 7AFTE with fairly high static CR and very careful tuning yield 200HP at around 10psi.

What i was trying to say is that the stock engine can only take 5-7 psi of boost so unless he did internal engine work to sustain higher boost it would be difficult to achieve 200hp.

Hmmm the 4A-FE blow after 12psi. I guess the 7A should be around the same? Unless its alum block.
