Angry Blown Engine

Hello all, Im very new to this forum but decided to come here and get some advice on my next course of action.

I have a 2000 Celica GTS/Manual. Recently I had the unfourtunate experience of blowing my engine. The car has 82k miles on it and aside from basic maintenance I have never had a problem from the car.

Im not a mechanic, nor do I have the best knowledge of automobile engines. What I do know is that on closer inspection of the engine, it "Appears" that a rod exited from the bottom of the vehicle through the oil pan. The hole is about the size of a bullet hole. At the time the engine blew, the engine had the proper level of oil.

Now the advice I have been given: I have asked several people and they pretty much come to the same conclusion though some vary. Purchase a "Short block" and have a mechanic install the short block, yet you retain most of the original partrs on the top half of the motor. What is the most economical way of getting my car back on the road? Short block, new engine, or refurbished engine? Also, where would I go online or in real world to purchase this part and what is the parts name? Any comments or suggestions are appreciated.

Thank You in advance.

If the head isn't damaged at all, then a short block would probably be your best bet.

And my condolances.

look up USED JAPANESE ENGINES on the internet. There are a number of sellers who have used Japanes engines available and they can ship one to you - all you need do it R&R it. Cost is usually a lot less than having your old one rebuilt and they are warrented for 6 to 12 months and up top 12,000 miles.

Recently received a quote of $325 plus freight for a 3sfe for my 88 and that's a lot cheaper than I can rebuild the one I have.

For old engine like the A and S series it'll be cheap but for his 2ZZ-GE, a rebuild is definitly cheaper. A local pull engine will be around $5000. JDM 2ZZ will be around $8000. Don't think you can find a short block 2ZZ. Just go with a complete 2ZZ. The engine is too new to find a short block.
