ok, so im in a jam, my car died on me the other day and is coughing and sputering and making a clicking noise. it did so about 3 seconds after the oil light came on. now ive checked the oil and it says that the oil level is where it needs to be. im thinking theres 2 possibilities, one that my engine is blown up(most likely) or two that my oil pump died on me. the engine has just under 187000 mile on it and it is a 94 celica. as best i can tell it is a 7AFE engine. it has been eating oil for a while now, about a quart (or a bit more) per 1000 miles. im not sure what the problem is exactly and am looking for some advice from people that know what theyre talkin about (i think im in the right place ). if n e one knows what is wrong or can help with a bit of advice, it would be greatly appreciated... thank in advance
and oh yeah, when i take the oil cap off i know there is supposed to be like little puffs of air come out, but if the car is running, it sprays oil all over the place
yeah doesnt sound good.. its worth taking the valve cover off and checking everything on the top end ro make sure nothing came apart. that shouldnt have anything to do with the oil light though
my old corollas 4af engine had a little cam gear right under the oil filler hole and with the cap off it would shoot oil out. hopefully its just something in the upper end and not a junk motor

When ever the engine stop, the oil light will come on. No matter what caused the problem. Will the engine start again? If you don't wanna try to start it, pull valve cover and oil pan to see if you find any broken parts. Pull the plugs to check also. Broken timing belt?
alrighty, so it was blown up, i think the oil coming out of my radiator comfirmed that ... so i found an engine for 450 at a junk dealer that was run tested great and has only 55000 mi. on it... problem... i told them i needed a 7AFE and i think i got a 4AFE... i have to switch the wiring harnesses and the intake and exhaust manifolds are different... intake isnt bad i can just swap, just need a new gasket from dealer... the exhaust manifold is the problem... my old one is cracked in 3 places(crapola) and the new one doesnt have a place for what im guessing is an oxygen sensor and the bell at the bottom wont fit the catalytic converter... im thinkin of running back to the junk yard and getting a new one, which will just be more money, oh well, but i was also tols that i have to swap the distributors... im thinking that it may mess with timing and in that case, n e 1 have n e suggestions for tackling the project the best without possibly messing with timing?? also, im lookin for a wiring schematic for the main wiring harness.. n e 1 know where i can find one??
With my 91 GT, the oil light come son every time I start it, now knowing the 5sfe prety well, the car does what is called, dry oil starts, meaning, when I start the car, there is no oil but inthe basepan, it doesnt have a prime system, so it goes out after a couple seconds. SO, it only comes on when no oil is passing over the oil pressure switch, SO I would assume you have a bad oil pump, and well now probobly a blown engine, but yeah, take off the top pan and the base pan and look for parts.
The junk yard gave you wrong engine, go get a exchange. You'll need more then wiring harness to get it to work. Also the 4A is 1.6L and have 103HP only.
