Mk5 headlamp - pops down, doesn't pop up
Hi All,
Got a 1990 Mk 5 Celica (UK spec) that I've only had a couple of months - I had my 91 MR-2 written off by a van driver who didn't stop at a junction and I picked up the Celi cheap while waiting for an insurance payout.
One of my headlamps won't pop up - it goes down alright (hence motor should be OK) and emits light so the only problem is that it won't rise and I have to remember not to switch both down or it's time to wind it up manually and it's hurty fingers time!
I got underneath her over the w/e and found an unconnected length of wiring terminating in a six (or possibly eight) piece connector. I couldn't find anywhere for it to connect it. I assumed this might be the cause of the prob but then my Celi has neither aircon nor front fogs so it might be a bit of redundancy in the loom (years ago I rebuilt the front half of the loom for a Triumph TR7 and their was a staggering amount of redundant wiring for different spec cars etc.)
So, Q1 - does anybody recognise the sound of that and have any idea where it should be going if indeed it should be?
And Q2 - A uncle who is an ex-mechanic says that there might be a two relay system one for each headlamp and that one relay might be broken. He suggests I find them and swop them around to prove/disprove it. However I'm waiting for a Haynes manual I bidding on on eBay so don't know where they would be. Again does anybody know?
Thanks for any help. THis is my second Toyota, I was so impressed with the MR-2 that I went immeadiately back to the brand. So far both my Toyota have been over ten years old, circa 140-150k mileage and are still better cars than the Ford Puma I had from new before them!
