5sfe foolishness

Ok, so as of late, my 91 celica GT's 5sfe engine has had a foolish side to it. its about 0-5 degree celcius here lately. SO, ok, start the car on a frosty night, let it turn over for a couple minutes, put it in first, start to go, it sartsmoving fin, but when I try ot accelerate, it sounds like the car is trying to go, but it wont. ok, problems eliminated, stuck brakes, no, gearbox fluid, no, fuel, no, air no, spark no.

so tonight I start it let it turn over for a couple minutes, while imletting it turn over, the rpms start to dance between 200 and 1300 rpm, lights dimming, car chugging, then it evens back out at 900.

what in the hell ?

John

hey man get used to you cars behavior. its Nov. 5th here and its -20 we have battery blankets and block heaters, its sorta funny to see a plug hangin out the front of all the sports cars here. my car does the same thing in the cold weather, once it warms up say run it for 5-7 minutes it will run just like normal until the temp hits about -40 then no car runs properly well not most of the time anyway. The behavior of my car in cold weather is, it starts, revs to 2000 for a couple seconds, slows down to about 1000 for a few min then goes up and down from about 400-1000, and if i try to drive it right away it doesnt accelerate worth a damn for about a kilometer, then its all good so this is normal for cars in cold weather. my grandam did it too.

The cars computer is confused with the idle program. The IACV is newer fuel injection systems version of the good old choke we used to use to warm our vehicles up in the day. Find the posts out here about cleaning the IACV, or you can have the dealer do it to. Then replace your O2 sensor afterwards if you can afford it and you'll get better gas mileage yet.

Air leak somewhere throughout intake?
Try total reset on your computer.
ISC cleaning and lube.
CSI?
I like O2 sensor and second the motion.

(I always think it's the o2 sensor and have yet to actually have one go bad!)
