to change the oil pan gasket, unbolt all the 10 mm bolts all the way around, to remove it. once you have it off clean all the reamining gasket (sealent) off of the bottom of the block and the oil pan. then use your black silicone sealant (toyota doesnt use cork gasket on oil pans, they leak too often) and run a good thick bead around the edge of the oil pan (the part that contacts the block), then use your finger to smear it around to make sure that there will be sealant all along the whole edge of the pan. you might want to wear gloves as this sealant is very messy, and very hard to get off of skin. then bolt it back on fill the motor with oil and yorue ready to go. might as well chage youre filter while your at it, being as you have to drain the oil out.

Doing it was an all day affair. You need to support the transmission, disconnect rear motor mount and front motor mount, remove 4 ft Transmission support member whcih runs from under radiator to rear, and lastly you need to remove the exhaust from block and the exhaust support bracket in order to drop the pan. All this took eight hours on my back with liberal brakes and shop setup and cleanup. I would have liked to replace rear motor mount at the same time but I couldnt get to it with my tools. Exhaust bolts twisted off so now I have to bore them out. After all this, I am still leaking a bit but not near as much as before. I found no signs of a gasket on the oil pan other than some remnants of permatex. I should also mention that I have run this celica several different times without any oil on the dipstick and it still runs like a charm.

89 oil pan

Yes it is a ball buster of a job to change the oil pan, unless you have a lift and a torch to remove the exhaust bolts. Try removing you valve cover and replacing that gasket first. Its simple, the spark plug holes have large nuts on top, just spin them off and the whole cover comes right off. Mine still leaks a bit of oil after a new pan gasket. So I am now looking at oil sending unit as a possiblitiy.

The correct terminology is ball buster thanks..
Anyway I did replace the valve cover gaskets recently ,the leak
may be from the oil pan or between the tranny and motor..
anyway hard to tell because everything under that area of the car
is tight and you have all the braces in the way..

Now im starting to get vibrations on the driverside axel oh chit..

You'll need to clean the crap off then watch it everyday to see where it leaks.
If its between the engine and tranny, that's lots of work.

Never heard of them. If they don't cost more then eibach, you could try them. Good or bad depends on how you like the ride.
