Aftermarket Air Intake

Hey Everyone,

I noticed on ebay that the aftermarket air intake kits (filter plus tube) seem to be Much cheaper than the K&N kits. I was just wondering why? ALso: How often do you have to oil/clean the filter.. and do they last forever?

Thanks!

This is one of the cases where you get what you pay for. K&N filters are definately one of the best filters on the market, if not the best. The cheaper ones do not work as well. I'm not sure how often you have to oil/clean the K&N's, but I would guess that it's not too often. If you want a good filter, shell out the extra money for the K&N.

I have one on my Ranger, I clean it every three months. The cleaning kit has done 3 cleanings and I still have some more use in it. Cleaning intervals depend on the conditions you drive in, I hit quite a few dirt roads so it gets pretty dusty. I also have a cheaper no namer intake and it is decent. It's on the Honda, I'd rather have a CAI, but there is still a performance increase.

The thing is: my stock airbox connects thru a pastic tube to the front of the car by the radiator, To force air into the filter. By putting a K&N in place of this, I remove this ram air type setup. So is it really worth it to switch to aftermarket?

Maybe I can fabricate some sort of longer tube to blow into the center of the K&N from the front air dam on the car? Just curious!

There is a K&N that fit into stock air box. You realize the stock setup is a CAI?
SRI is the worse thing you can do as bolt on.

The speeds you would have to be going to make a ram air effective makes it irrelevant.

I would reccomend a CAI with K&N filter, that would be the best possible setup. You can put a K&N filter in your stock airbox.

I put a 25$ intake in a 96 camry 5sfe... (short ram), and its an APC filter... nothing special... very little horsepower gains, 2-4?? .... and all it really gives you, is a loud air sucking sound, and you can hear the engine growl...

Not inless you make something where when you close the hood, the only air coming into the under hood is through where air can enter your car... much like i did
