Hey guys I just got a '90 Celica GT-S.. and I CANNOT find the rear wiper washer fluid resevior! when I press the washer fluid for the rear nothing happens.. i dont' hear any motor noise or nothing so I'm thinking maybe the motor is disconnected?
Any insight as to where the motor/resevior is would be helpful.
I looked at a Haines manual at an auto store but as usually Haines was completely and utterly useless.
One other question, What grade oil should I use.. there is a service sticker on the windshield that says 5w30.. I am going to use a synthetic blend.. but I'm not sure on what this motor takes.. I guess I should look at the factory stickers on the underside of hood.. I'm guessing if 5w30 is what is in there.. then the garage the guy had the car serviced at probably looked at the stickers and put in what the sticker said.. however, what is the best grade to run for winter months in the 5SFE?
It shares withnthe front. Same bottle. Ususlly it take a while to get anything out.
Check owner manual or oil cap for oil grade. We use 10W-30 in Canada.
Ok... Well I don't hear anything when I hit the button and I've held it for a while.. I don't hear any motor whirring sounds.. nadda.. is there a connection somewhere for the rear pump.. or a fuse or relay that I can check?
I really need to go buy me a toyota factory mechanical/electrical repair manual like I have for my corolla
Oh.. one other question.. according to the temp gauge on the instrument cluster my temp is usually very low while on the highway.. i mean sitting at Cold side... I don't know if the thermostat is muffed.. or if the temp gauge sensor is screwed up.. if the pin is corroded.. etc.. Also, every time I pop radiator cap when engine is cold the fluid is sitting low in the radiator.. not super low though.. I can put in probably 8oz of fluid.. The resevior is filled way up the neck.. it never takes any fluid out.. Any suggestions?
I've checked the exhaust on cold starts.. I don't get any smoke.. so I doubt it's burning any fluids.. seems to drive fine... doesn't bog or have poor acceleration.. so I'm not sure as to what the issue is here and I don't wanna go and start buying all these new parts.. thermostat or temp sw. etc etc and ripping shit apart if it is a common issue or someone might know what the culprite is.
Also where the hell is the coolant temp sw.? I see some sort of electrical plug on the bottom of the radiator.. maybe that is for the fan though.. I'm not positive.. so any insight would be appreciated.
nevermind about the temp gauge sensor location.. i found that.. looked in my dads '88 3sfe camry repair book.. I pulled the plug off cleaned it.. didnt' seem dirty tho.. I think I might just need a new sensor.. either that or the thermostat needs replacing... after a highway drive and the gauge is reading cold I should quick get out and feel the radiator see if it feels cool or hot.. might lend some insight into the health of the sensor itself.
Well I figured out the coolant issue.. no thermostat .. lol.. so now the coolant heats up to the proper temps and everything is good there//
Still can't figure out the rear wiper washer tho... i twisted the knob back for the washer and held it for a minute.. nothing happened at all.. no sounds of the pump or anything.
as for your oil grade question. synthetic is always a good idea. 5w30 or 10w30, it wont matter. they act the same at high heat, 5w30 is better at very low temperatures just because its a bit thinner, but im yet to see 10w30 freeze in my car, even when its 30 below.
Does the main wiper (front) washer work..? if it doesn't you have a problem with the pump or you are out of washer fluid.
Seriously, just remove the fender liner on the passangers side front wheel well and you should see the pump attached to the container, check if the rear hose is attached and if the electrical contact has power.

The front washer works fine.. So there are 2 pumps on the front resevior.. one for front and one for rear? I obviously have fluid.. lol.
I put 10w30 valvoline durablend in today with a Wix oil filter. I gotta take these bullshit bosch spark plugs out and put some NGK's in...
yeah im not a big fan of bosch plugs on toyota ignition systems. i like the stock denso plugs, i find that until an engione is heavily modded, toyota plugs work the best, in toyota ignitions.

Nope... just one pump with two outputs, one for the front nozzles and the other for the rear one, another possibility is that the rear nozzle could be cluttered by dust, car wax or any kinda crap, check it.
The pump sounds the same when working for the front or rear, if it's working for the front and not the rear then maybe there is something wrong with the switch on the leaver (or control thing on the steering column that turns the wipers/pump on, whatever the name is in english).

I tried mine this evening just to see and after I finally figured out which knob it was it only squirted a little narrow stream but enough to get the job done I suppose. I wonder if it originally sprayed rather than just pee'd. The front and the rear are separate you know.
It could be just plugged.
