Fuel Line Leak

I have a gas leak under my car by the passenger side seat it seems like. The question I have is: How do I repair this. I was told by my buddy that all I have to do is cut the fuel line with some cutters in the part thats leaking, and then clamp on a rubber hose I can get from auto parts store. So basically I'm supposed to be able to slip the hose around the outside of the fuel line (its supposedly universal fit?) and clamp it, and it'll work?

Is there any chance of loss of preformance, or Any other bad side effects of doing it this way, rather than replacing the fuel line altogether? Thanx

If the leak is small, you can use those black pipe self seal tape (not electrical tape) in Crappy tire to wrap the leak then put a SS hose clamp on top to pevent it from blowing out by fuel pressure. Warp it with telfon tape before you use the black tape. Make sure you don't make any spark or heat up the pipe if you cut it.

just cut the bad section of the fuel line out, and put the rubber line in the middle. if the whole length of line is rusted you might be better off replacing the whole thing.
