the 18rg makes its power at a much higher rpm's you will probably have to change your r&p gearing to get the best results. a better aproach may be to find a pre 84' 22r short block. this will give you a bunch of torque. if you buy pistons and rings go as big as you can find we have gone .080 over with no problems.
You can find some realy good deals on ebay. thare is a guy in WA. that sells some regrinde cams for about $60. a set of good valve springs is a must with a cam. you can buy a header for around $200 and a used weber 32/36 for $150 or so. if you are thrifty you might put this togather for around $1000. check out " new to mods" a thread from a couple of days ago there is some tips on inexpensive ways to free up some hp.
