help?

Okay, so I am definitely just learning about cars, and I am CLUELESS right now. A friend came over today (okay, yesterday by now), and installed a CD player in my 1988 Celica ST. Now it won't start! The only thing that is any different from the day before is the CD player.

I have the repair manual at home, but I am out of town for Christmas.

Does anyone have any idea what happened and/or how to fix it?

Its possible he wired something up wrong, or cut into the wrong wire and blew some fuses. Or he just left the door open for too long while installing it and killed the battery. Is there no power at all? Dose it crank but not start?

The battery is fine. And believe me, I KNOW what the poor car acts like when the battery is dying!! The power seems fine. Everything comes on with no problem. The best way I can think to describe it is that it turns over, but it just doesn't START.

Yeah, so it's fixed. Apparently it was just being temperamental. It wouldn't start for me all night last night or all morning this morning, so I called the "man-person," and he came over. It started just fine for him, and it's been fine since. So yeah, now he's mocking me relelntlessly.

I don't why it wasn't starting though.

Maybe it has something to do with the weather? The poor little car is used to the Mississippi Gulf Coast where it is not this cold, oh, ever.......

can you enlighten me, since, as I said, I am CLUELESS about cars (actually bought this one so I can learn about cars by doing a bunch of work on it over time.....plus, it's really fun to drive!!), what exactly constitutes flooding Seriously, how does one flood an engine, and how can you "fix" it? Because my friend last night suggested that perhaps it was flooded, and I should wait til morning and try again, but it didn't want to start this morning either.

Wow. Yeah. I am definitely a total noob. And a natural blonde, which explains a lot :P

Flooding is basically too much fuel in the cylinders. Too much fuel and not enough air will cause it to crank but not start. And every time you crank the engine the fuel injectors dump more fuel in. You can either let it sit for a while and wait for some of the fuel to evaporate, or just hold the gas pedal to the floor and crank it (this will allow more air into the cylinders). hope that helps some. Oh and merry X-mas

Thanks. I hope you had a good Christmas and have a good New Year

So, I was told to do the gas thing, and it didn't work that night. So, could it possibly have just been the cold?
