91 Celica GT ..Needs Advice

I just bought a '91 Celica GT Sport Coupe 2D from a friend and found out that the nightmare has just begun. I brought it to a mechanic and was told that I need at least 1000 dollars to spend on repairing the car. I paid 1000 dollars for the car alone and am not sure if I should go ahead and sell the car or repair it. I need to fix these:

1) Radiator (leaking, need to be replaced)
2) Timing belt
3) Spark Plugs
4) Left Axle

Please leave me some advice. What parts can be replace by myself? I'm really out of money now. Trying to save some labor charge here.

Thanks

Dave

Sparkplugs and radiator should not be too complex if you follow along in a repair manual,, but this all depends on how experienced you are or how comfortable ur.. But thats too bad the timing belt is gone.. that's gonna be expensive to fix.. they'll ask you if you wanna replace your water pump at the same time since it can be done at the same time.. Up to you if you're willing to pay the $$ !

Angry

that's the bad thing about it. The timing belt costs about 300 dollars. Huh, don't know if i should fix that. Anyway, what is the most important thing? I don't think i can afford to fix them all at a time. Will go one by one.
Which one should i fix first? Radiator? Timing Belt?

And, how much is an air filter gonna cost?

Thanks.

spark plugs are cheap and you could do them yourself
air filter shouldnt be too expensive either

you need both the rad and the timing belt done to drive. If the belt breaks then you will need a new motor.

the s motors wont bend the valves, if the belt breaks the motor will just stop, do the radiator first along with the plugs, you can probably do these 2 things yourself

Any car will need those part sooner or later. You got a pretty goo d deal for 1G. Fix it up and keep it.
If you can afford to tow it home, you don't need to fix the timing belt now. Pull the top belt cover off to see if the belt is cracked or not. If it looks good, then you can wait.
Rad is less then $200. Do a flush before you remove the old one. Fix the rad first. If you overheat the engine, you're looking into more expensive repair.
