Progress on the Hybrid

The weather wasn't perfect today but there were no clouds, sun out and it was warm enough (mid 40's) for me to go do some work on the Celica. In the picture you can see what I have done. I got the 20R head bolted up along with the sidedrafts, power steering pump and dizzy. the thing that sucks is that was the easy stuff. Now I have to do the little things like hook up my electric fuel pump and run lines figure out my vacuum lines, clean up the engine bay and a few other detail things. It is really starting to come along pretty nice though.

Ahhh...forgive me for asking but why are you doing that to a 20R ?
If you have to pass smog...ya wont...so go with a 18RG or 3tc or even a 2tg.
20R was a good engine but it has rocker arms and a weak valve train.
I personaly trashed one myself.

Drive sane,

Well beleive me I would love to put in an 18RG but living in Kansas there is a little trouble finding one and if I find one for sale it is on the west coast and so shipping one here would kill me. My motor isn't just a 20R it is a 20R/22R hybrid motor. That is a 20R head on top of a 22R block. As for the valve train it isn't that bad at all. There are a ton of aftermarket support for the 20R/22R so it isn't that hard to make the valve train or any of the other parts stronger. As for smog check I live in Kansas so I don't have to get anything checked so I could care less. That is why I run the car open header and have taken all of the emissions crap off of the car.
