Engine Tapping On Start Up

I Have A Celica 2.0 Gt M Reg Car Which Has Just Had A New Engine Fitted, On Initial Start-up I Get A Tapping Sound Like All The Oil Has Drained Out The Tappets And The Cam Is Not Getting Lubricated. After About 20 Sec It Runs Fine As It Should, And With No Tapping And No Problems Like This All Day Starting It Again. Does Any1 Know Whether This Is Normal For New Toyota Engines Because I Have Heard That The Engines Are Noise On Initial Starup. I Would Appreciate Any 1 Who Could Help Or Has Had This Problem Themselves.

I agree.
Oil travels from the pump to the filter, then to the many oil gallyes to do its job.
Must good filters have a valve to prevent oil from traveling out of the filter and back into the crankcase after the engine is shut off( and keep the oil in the gallye from the pump to the filter). This means that oil is in the gallyes and ready for use as soon as the engine is cranked over...no dry start.

Or it could mean that your valves are not at the right ajustment

I would start with the filter and correct oil.

great, look on one of the stickers on the underside of the hood or on the belt end of the motor, look for 3sfe or 3sge

Ok, the ge head has solid shim type bucket lifters, unless there is too much clearance above the shim from wear, it usually isnt a problem, the valvetrain doesnt need oil to do anything but lubricate it. Now, the ge pistons are kindof a loose fit in the bore and have been known to make noises when cold, what year is this ge motor?
