It can be done but there is so much that you would have to do that it is not even worth it. Why is it you hate your solid rear end? I have an 81 Celica so it is a solid rear end and it is great. If you want a Celica and IRS then your only option is to find an 84-85 Celica GTS because those came in IRS but other then that you are pretty much stuck with a solid rear end which isn't bad though.

Anything is possible. It's just the cost and amount of work that is needed is an issue.

The Corolla AE86 GTS came with an LSD stock and they use the same rear end as all Toyota celicas with a solid rear end so you can use that. That is what I am using on my 81 Celica. Also since a lot of cars use the same rear end there are a ton of options for ring and pinion size. The 4.3 is what most GTS corollas came with. I am running a 3.9:1 ring and pinion from a 1st gen celica auto tranny.

in our race car we run a 7.5" out of a 83' supra they are much stronger and the 7.5" r&p from the pickups give you alot of ratios to choose from.
