84 engine swap

how difficulkt would it be to get a 3vz-e engine into my 84 celica. it's currently has a 22re, and the motor came from a 4runner, which also came with 22re's, so would fit? what kind of tranny would i need to keep it rwd? i've heard they aren't the best performing motors, but i'm building my celica strictly for drag and want more displacement, and i just got a 3vz-e where i work that only needs a new rod bearing? would this be a good idea?

i think that's all that's wrong. i know it slaps like a bastard. but, i'm dubious about the performance capabilities of the 3vz-e, i may be better opff with the 22re. it'd be fun to make something fast out of that motor.

If a bearing is gone you'll spend more to fix it than its worth unless you plan on replacing pistons w/ higher or low depending on Induction method. if it needs a new rod bearing you can bet it spun meaning you'll need a new crank "or turn the old one if Possible" new rods because of the heat caused making the rod brittle new bearings rod and mains, at this time look at cylinder walls might need to be bored over then pistons and rings will have to be replaced. Just undertook the same kind of thing w/ a 22 RE cost me about 900 total all new rotating ass. new gaskets, oil pump, machine work and lots more. if your going for high performace than you could do all this to gain displacement. Which might be just what you are looking for.

A 3vz-e would probably fit but you would have to get custom motor mounts made and most likely you will need a custom hood to have enough clearance between the hood and the motor for the hood to close. If you want do to a drag motor you should look into an engine that runs more smooth then a 3vz-e though. I have seen a few 1GGTE's swapped into 3rd gens which one of those can easily be made to have a lot of power, also 7mge and 7mgte's should bolt right in and have only a little custom work for that to be in there.
