Believe it or not, this is my first FWD swap and my first import swap. I've never had anything to do with a turbo nor fuel injection. Pretty much I'm looking at other swaps online and going for it. Also nobody at my shop has ever dealt with a performance import. I'm using some common sence and something else I have very little of, patience. The biggest hold back has been the drivers side axle. I am good with wiring! My dad cut/welded the frame and has helped along the way in any way I've asked.
Why did I decide to do this?
On the way home one day a crx showed me how fast a vtec could be. I was in awe. I went out and bought a crx to build and a parts car, like in 2 months. Then I found this tercelonline.com place...talking about 4EFTE swaps. Turbo'd tercels, eatting swapped civics. I was intrigued. I have never been one to follow the masses, in the domestic world I was/still am, pro MoPar. However the swaps these guys are talking about is a 1.3, smaller engine, from a 1700lb car, lighter than a terc. "That's not the way to hotrod something" I thought to myself. You're supposed to get a larger engine, from a heavy car, to hotrod something. So I started a search, and found that a 2nd gen 3SGTE was about the strongest 4banger toyota offered. Since I figure it's going to take about 300whp to make me happy it makes better sence to me to start with an engine with a stock rating as near as possible to the goal. Spend the money to make that fit, rather than spend on an engine that bolts in.
I've never had an engine shipped so I have no clue as to the price.
http://jarcoinc.com is in my state so I pickup anything I need from them.
Any S series engine should bolt in. You'll need the proper ecu and harness for whichever engine you choose.
