Good MPG at last!

I bought this Celica a 1000 or so miles ago and have had P-Poor gas mileage at around 14/20 which is way low for this ride.
New plugs and gaskets for oil in plug area. EC oil instead of high mileage oil. New clutch and friction plate. None of these things helped much as far as the mileage goes.
Yesterday I put a new oem cap and rotor in and plug wires and the vent hose that I broke pulling it off the valve cover to get to the distributer cap. It was the last 3 things mentioned that helped me get almost 29 mpg mixed city and hwy.

The cap and rotor were looking pretty bad and the wires that were bosch brand were ok but one connector was a little suspect. Anyway I am happy that is solved!

Ok, your right, I doubt the hose had any impact on the mileage.

I broke the vent hose that comes from the valve cover when I tried to remove it. It must of been the original cause it was Brittle.

what engine you got? cuz the hose i'm thinking of comes off the right side of the valve cover and goes to the intake manifold. which i believe is the PCV valve or some crap like that.

I guess thats it. Since that was not what I was working on I did not pay too much attention other than I needed to replace it.

29mpg? weak... what are you? lead footed?!

treat it with zmax, my dads camry got around 30-33mpg on long trips, he did the zmax treatment, a couple months later, did a long trip, got 35-38mpg with his auto 5sfe.

Yes a little lead footed. We have not done any highway only runs in the celica since the repair work so maybe it will get 30+ mpg. It only got 20 the first highway only so this is much better. In the city though it is still not all great.
I used some zmax in another vehicle and saw no difference but you never know.
