Which engine do I have? 3S-FE, 3S-GE, 4A-FE, 5S-FE, 7A-FE?

94 Celica w/1.8 Liter. I will be replacing a headgasket and bought a Haynes manual for all the the bolt torque specs but dunno how to decipher which engine I have. I do know that it has DOHC. TIA.

look on the emmissions sticker on the underside of the hood, look for 7a-fe

um... head gaskets.... here's some comments..

clean the surfaces until they are only metal and no old gasket material

label each bolt so it goes in exactly the same place,

keep new gasket completely free of oil, grease, including chicken grease and/or any kinda oil,

clean surfaces with rubbing alcohol (let it dry for 10min though) right before you put them together

clean bolts and holes with a tap and die if possible (only one pass though), clean bolts with brake cleaner then coat with engine oil...

USE A TORQUE WRENCH

be very careful getting the old gasket stuff off the head, no gouges or cuts, and no scotchbrite pads on a die grinder , now the block is iron, but still be careful, i like to drag a big flat bastard across the deck to get it looking good
