Starter problem .. Should I change it myself?

I got a 91 Celica ST. My car wouldn't start this morning. But, I managed to get it going after a hitting the starter. Actually, i didn't really hit the starter. I was playing around with the wire connected to the gas pedal. Hehe.
I've tried starting the car for more than 10 times (randomly) after the incident and it just looked fine. No hesitation and nothing.
Do I still need to change the starter??
Is it and easy job to change it? I'm not an expert. But i've changed my radiator successfully. My friend was trying to scare me by saying that it could mess up the whole computer if i did the wrong thing. Huh, what should i do?

Just have someone take a look at it. It doesn't necessarily need change, but if some part isn't good then they could replace it and rebuild the starter.

I had a 91 Prizm with similar troubles, My friend removed the starter cleaned the contacts and the plunger. (some slight disassembly required) and it worked perfect until I sold the car. You may get by without parts ??

Just take your starter off and take it to Canadian Tire or something and have them test it. Its only two bolts to remove the starter

You might just need to get the contacts cleaned, thats all.
