Just bought a 93 Celica st, and it has a few problems
its getting fuelt o the injectors, but no spark, put it in diagnostic mode and its giving me code 12, and it will give a code 51 if i press the gas pedal while its in diag. mode
code 12 no NE signal to the ecu within several seconds after the engine is cranked
code 51 something to do with the AC cand idle circuit
i ended up buying a replacement distributor/igniter off a salvage yard, they gurantee its good (and i got it cheap so no worries about buying an expensive part i didnt need), that didnt change anything, still get code 12, even after resetting the ecu it flashes code 12 after cranking (and still no sign of trying to start)
i have been double checking all connections, there are no orphaned electrical connectors, no blown fuses, no open vacuum lines
one thing to note is when the car got repod because the kid couldnt make payments, he ghetto rigged the stock stereo back in, and crossed a bunch of wires and wired the power into the cigarette lighter everytime youd turn the headlights on the speakers would buzz, so i took care of that

try this, pull the dist out of the motor and leave it hooked up, hold the metal body to the valve cover and spin the shaft, you should hear the injectors tick and sparks comming out the ends of the wires with the key on
Interesting, i took the timing cover off, and the belt looked fine, it still had tension on it and seemed whole, but i just realized the distributor has not been rotating, the injectors and plugs fire when i do what you suggested fred, it seems like the timing belt now, but how can it still have tension if its broken?
