Hi, I was wondering if one of you guys can do me a favor?
Any of you with an '86-'89 GTS, if you could post a picture of your engine bay. Particularly your intake manifold.
I'm trying to check to see how the mounting would be on my 5S-FE.
Thanks.
it will fit, but its a stupid idea. the 3S block and the 5S block are very similar and probably the exact same size.
the amount of custom work required will be amazing. this has been diecussed to death, if you are going to do that much custom work to get a 3S block into a gen3, then you might as well go all out and get the 3SGTE.

the intakes are different, the intake ports on the g head are huge compared to the ones on the f head, now the ex manifolds will swap and the blocks are identical
That's not really a concern. My concern is if it will bolt on. I can always port-match.
Even if it has different stud sizing, I can drill the manifold or tap the head.
I'm just trying to figure out what I'm up against and how the 3sge manifold is laid out (if it would be hitting the firewall or not?) and how the throttle cable linkage is setup.
Like I said, if you have pics, I'd appreciate it. I'm soon going to hit the wall where my current manifold will be a limiting factor.
well, if you somehow weld, cut, hack, the ge manifold onto the fe head, the holes in the manifold will be nearly twice the size of the ones in the head, then the head will be the limiting factor, just put a ge head and manifold on the motor, it will be cheaper, wrath will help with this
fredk, I don't think you completely understand my build.
My build's intentions are to build an na 5S-FE. I already have a built head (read: ported, polished, milled to 10-1CR, oversized valves being installed right now and cams soon to be on the way to my builder to set valve depth).
Now, the head was ported by the previous owner to work with a custom intake manifold. I'm going to take a crazy guess and say that if anything, I may outflow the manifold still.
It amazes me the money people spend on an na engine to put out near what a stock boosted one does. Not trying to check your project. Just saying there are cheaper ways.
Ok crawlingeye, the intakes on the g head are big enough to loose a cell phone in, they are about 4 inches wide by 2 inches tall and a completely different setup than the f head, you cant make it work, what you can do is get a f intake and cut it off at the flange to the head and cut it at the plenum chamber and have some pipes the same size as the intake ports welded in, and then put a ge throttle body on it along with a ge mass air and tube
thanks, tercel. do you have any better pics of the intake manifold?
I did try google before I even posted this thread but couldn't find any good manifold shots.
the reason for the build is largely fun. either way you cut it, my car's going to get faster. plus, I'm looking at laying down 160-180whp when my build is over. I'm shooting for an ideal 160whp for the summer (once I'm done with my s54 swap).

Yes, I had already thought of that so far. Thanks.
My reasoning for the pictures are to check to see the angle of the runners to see if it'll hit the firewall or go back into the head.
I'm still looking into different manifolds to convert or thinking of custom.
