Gen5 Different motors.. same transmission..???

Hey everyone. ive been thinking of doing a motor swap on my '91 celica st. right now it has the 4a-fe with about 280,000 miles HAHA!! I recently replaced my trans and was wondering if it would bolt up with either the 2.2l or the 2.0l.

Nop.
You got a 4A-FE which is the A series engine. The 2.2L is 5S-FE, 2.0L is 3S-FE, 3S-GE and 3S-GTE which are all S series engine. Only same series will share tranny.
So you can swap to a 4A-GE or 4A-GZE.

okay, thats good to know! but here is another question for ya.... as to my knowledge the 2.0 turbo was only offered in the awd model. so i would have to use a trans from the 5s-fe is that correct?

Yes. It won't worth the trouble to put the AWD into any non-AWD car.

Buy a 3sgte clip. If you dont, you'll have to source alot of parts which you will need. Including MAP sensor, AFM, solenoids, Ecu etc. etc..

If you swap to a 2nd gen 3s, you can use the S54 tranny (5s) but its kinda a crap shoot considering its stock hp is 135. You can use an MR2 tranny and conver it to FWD which is basically pretty easy. Your going to need an alltrac tranny parts (which will come with the clip) and MR2 axles. You can search google or celicatech.com for more information on this.
