1zz vs. 2zz

i was wondering how similar the 1zz and the 2zz are. they are both 1.8 correct? i know horsepower, compression, cmas and all that stuff is different, but mechanically, are they the same? what i'm asking is, how hard would it be to swap a 2zz into theplace of a 1zz
MR2? engine mounts, intake/exhaust manifolds, all that junk. i'm sure it's do-able, but it looks to me like it might be easy. thanks

Cheaper and more power to turbo/SC the 1ZZ then swap a 2ZZ. Rewiring the ECU is not fun.

The 1.8L 1ZZ engine VVT-i and 1.8 2ZZ VVTL-i engine have only the engine displacement in common and nothing else. They have completely different bore, stroke, pistons, cams, headers etc. 2ZZ was built by Toyota in collaboration with Yamaha motorcycle company while 1ZZ was built by Toyota themselves.
