92 Celica GTS engine and battery light

Hello I'm new here. My first post. Hope you guys can give me some help. I usually go to toyotacelicas.com but people there don't seem to know much. This site is a pretty big site. I feel it's too broad. Many cars and many generations. Must be lots of intelligent people with lots of experience. What I've got is a 92 Toyota Celica GTS. I worked on this car many times. So many problems. Well recently, my check engine light came on. Never seen it before. How can we check what it is? Is there a code? I've also had major problems with the Alternator. So many things has happend with it in the past but for now, I got a new alternator. Everything seems ok, it's just that tha battery light is always on though it's perfectly charging. What can it be. Plan to sell it soon. Just need to fix all problems before I sell it. Hope you guys can help me out.

You might have bad wiring between the alternator and the rest of the engine. You see the "battery light" is really the charging system light. This comes on when the voltage isn't flowing right from the alternator. So either A) the alternator was improperly installed, B) the alternator is defective out of the box, or C) you got some bad wiring. Best bet is to take it to an electrical specialist or a dealer to trace the problem to its source.

Yeah I'm sure it's wiring problems. It all started some reason one day after years of running perfectly, the positive terminal wire on the alternator started getting hot and burnt the wire out. So I would connect a new wire to the pos terminal on the alternator and after some days it would burn up again. This would happen over and over so I connected the pos terminal on the alternator with a wire directly to the pos terminal on the battery. Since then it works ok but then the alternator died so I went and got a new alternator. I charges and the wire still doesn't burn anymore but for some reason, now the battery light comes on even though it's charging normally.

if your alternator is good like you claim.... then you must have a wiring problem i would definatly check all the grounds and fuses to make sure the problem isn't simple before taking it somewhere.
