3s-gte + S53???

hey guys if i get the 3s-gte motor will the S53 trans (5sd that bolts up to the 5s-fe) bolt right up?

if it bolts up to the block like it should will the spline on the transmission fit into the motor??

has anyone done this already?

ok well here let me ask it a different way. if i were going to do an engine swap from my 1.6 to the 3s-gte what transmission would work? i was under the impression that the transmission from the 5s-fe motor would bolt right up is this correct?

your 1.6 is an a block, it needs an a block trans, a 3sge or 3sgte is an s block, it will need an s block trans, dont confuse the s block with the s53 numbering, s53 simply means the model of the trans, not the block it will bolt to

Sorry everyone it seems as if i was wrong!!!!!

Frdmuscle302: ohhh ok heres my question. i might purchase this 3sgte motor off of ebay. and i was wondering what trans i can use with it. i know i cant use the one i have now

fredk1037: whats it going into?

Frdmuscle302: my '91 celica

Frdmuscle302: non awd

Frdmuscle302: so i was wondering if i could use the 5s-fe's tranny

fredk1037: is an a block in it now?

Frdmuscle302: yes

Frdmuscle302: 4a-fe

fredk1037: nothing but an a block will work

Frdmuscle302: i cant just get new mounts?

fredk1037: oh yeah, if your real good at welding and drivetrain alignment

Frdmuscle302: im confused. i figured that the engine compartment was generally the same from 90-93 so i figured that i could just take a 5s-fe transmission and a 3s-gte motor bolt them together and get new mounts and drop it right in is that incorrect?

fredk1037: no go, the mount points on the car aredifferent, and your going to need axles and knuckles and hubs from the car the s tranny came from

fredk1037: you must have an st?

Frdmuscle302: unfortunatly

fredk1037: get a 4age

Frdmuscle302: and that will bolt up

fredk1037: or build up a 7afe and put a 4age head on it and a turbo

fredk1037: any a block will work

Frdmuscle302: well shit. so if i wanted to go 3sgte route i would have to start by getting a car that had the 5sfe in it right?

fredk1037: yep, an s block car?

Frdmuscle302: damn well thats good to know i figured that the mounting points were all the same and all i would have to is get new motor mounts

Frdmuscle302: i appreciate your help
