Angry '93 Celica Crank, No start

I have a 1993 Toyota Celica that shut off while driving. No spit or sputter, just shut off. It cranks over and sounds normal. Dist. rotor is turning fine, but it doesn''t appear to have any spark. I tested the ig. coil, and came up with .6 ohm on primary, and 8000 ohms on secondary. Haven't tested fuel pressure, but I don't hear the pump running. Have power going to coil with coil leads +,- disconnected, but shows zero volts when wires are connected to the coil. Is THAT normal? Any ideas are welcome. Toyota dealer says they "hardly ever replace igniters"

Tomorrow is diagnosis day. I will give that a shot. I believe the thing you are talking about is the ignitor on the fender well under the hood. Toyota says they hardly ever replace that, unless it was hit in an accident. If that what it is, then it costs about $550.00!!!! Maybe I will tap on it real light.

Bingo. For all with the 2.2 internal ignition coil. If you experience the same problem. Take a good look at the primary and secondary resistance on the coil. ANYTHING out of range, or visual cracks in the coil, replace it. $40.00 after market Borg Warner. Fired right up with a 15 minute installation. P.S. Don't be fooled by quiet fuel pumps. Just because you don't hear it, doesn't mean it isn't working. diagnosis--check timing belt, and make sure it is spinning. Check for spark. If none found, check coil resistance, pickup resistance, and be sure you are getting power to the coil + and - terminals (CHECK IT DISCONNECTED FROM THE COIL). The ignition system is basic. Coil, pickup, igniter, and ecu. That is it. 106,000 miles on the original coil.

CELICA-GTS, the thingee you were referring to is the igniter. It is located on the firewall in the top left corner. Rarely goes bad, unless car in an accident.
