I did a search and read all the info about the location of the vsv but I still can't see the thing.
Its under the intake manafold I hear. Do I need to jack up the car and come in from underneath? Any body have a pic they can email me?
I'm trying to solve the code 71 and the vsv is one of the things I need to check. I plan on pulling the egr out soon and cleaning it too.

its under the intake manifold on right side if ur in the driver seat its kind o fhidden behind the engine mount its hard too see but its there
I have spent lots of time looking for this part and I just can not see it from above. Do I need to look from up under the car? All I want to do is check the darn thing to try and solve my EL code 71, Iv'e done everything else recommended except cleaning the EGR tube.
Just got back fromt he dealer and a tech said I had to find it from underneath. i was considering putting that Penzoil syncronizer fluid in the manual tranny so I have to jack it up anyway. http://www.pennzoil.com/products/gea...cro_fluid.html

Synchromesh works wonders if your transmission grinds [I'm running it in mine right now], but someone pointed out to me yesterday that it is bad for our synrcos [it eats away at them]
I'm not sure how much truth there is in this yet.
It does say in the discription that it has excellent compatibility with yellow metals [like brass, copper, which is what sychros are made of (alloy)]
MIght be something peculiar to the alloy in our syncros.
You might want to go with a thinner gear oil for now instead.

Yeah, me niether.
I'm not knocking the stuff, just wanted to throw it out for you to chew on.
I had the car up and checked the tranny level and it was ok so I did not put the stuff in. The great thing about the 91 Celica GTS 5 speed is the manual says use gl5 or if you don't have that use gl3 or 4 and if you don't have that use Dextron 11 which leads me to believe you could put just about anything in theat tranny and it would work.
It is not really a problem so i will not mess with it further.
thanks for the reply!
