how can i tell what engines in my car?

i just got a 1990 celicaGT but the previous owner had the engine changed. he said same thing but the japan version. Is there anyway i can find out exactly which one it is and what the stats are on it? thx alot

Japanese versions have no EGR. Ask a mechanic to point out the EGR valve for you, if he can't find one it may really be JDM.

well, you still dont know what type of engine it is...

The US celica gt's got the 5SFE, but the JDM's got the 3SGE. I dont think celica's ever had the 5SFE in japan.

If you can take a picture of the engine bay, we can tell you what engine you have.

he put a 3SFE in there, not the same...

Looks like a regular NADM 3SFE out of like a camry or 4th gen celica.

Specs 115hp 110tq.

honestly it looks like a junk yard engine to me.

looks like theres a sensor thats not connected, if you look in the pic, its to the left of the top radiator hose.

the engine was suposidly swapped by japan motors....he wasnt tryin to say the jap one was any better tho...he was jus informing me that it wasnt the original engine...so r u saying theres no possible way that this could be the jdm one?

im not sure i dont really know much about this kinda stuf yet its my first car and i gotta start learnin more about them ....but is that a good pic to look at for it? bcuz i can take more if theres a specific spot i should try to focus on to see better

It looks like an old 5S-FE.
A JDM 3S-FE look like this:
Unless he just swap the block and head and kept stock intake manifold.
I guess the only way to find out is pull the head and measure bore diameter.
