Canada 7th gen shifter hack in a 5th gen

Hi guys,

So I've been reading up with positive enthusiasm on hacking the 7th gen shifter and sticking it into the 5th gen. Now, my question is, does it have to be the 5 speed out of a GT, or does the stick from a 6 speed GTS also work? Secondly, if this shifter works in our 5th gen cars, then can we simply buy aftermarket short shifters for the 7th gen and stick them in our car? These seem much easier to get on ebay and are generally cheaper. They usually say it is compatible with both the 5 and 6 speeds.

That's the article I saw, but... I just don't know whether they are referring to the GT 5spd or the GTS 6 spd or if they are the same...
