okay im puttin this in the celica forum cuz im guessing celicas probably had a 22r engine in them in 1981 as well as my toyota corona. we bought a new long block. returned our core head because we also bought a new head before we decided to buy the long block. we were poutting the engine together today and there is an opening in the rear of the head. it looks like its coolant system channels but what is supposed to go in that space? any help (including pictures) would be appreciated.

It's an aluminum passage block as you figured. The 22/20r in my truck had the same thing. Go to a dealership and see how much one would be if you don't have a salvage yard nearby. If going to a salvage yard carry a gasket like your head uses so you don't buy a part that may not fit.
