take the down pipe off the exhaust manifold if your cat is under the car, it will be loud as hell, but if the cat is blocked up it will run lots better, then just get ya a new kitty

not so sure it could possibly be a clogged exhaust, because it would affect the whole range, not just changing gears. as far as power shifting in a celica with a stick shift like my brothers five ton...

clutch slippage sounds like the culprit, or maybe the intake is clogged and sticking, so that it does not get enough air until the engine gets higher rpms...

I think it may be the intake for the shifting problem. and the exhaust thing we will find out tomorow. Thanks alot.

Check the MAP sensor by disconnecting the vaccuum hose to it. I have one if you do need it- the last remaining part from my recently and dearly departed 91 gt.

Dude, you don't have to worry about knocking without egr. Especially in the 5SFE.
Unless you're running crazy timing or such. Or have another problem.
