Well, this celica sux. Ok, the celica is a1991 GTS. 5SFE motor. The problem is that when i drive it, it is just crap. I mean, when i take off, it hesitates to go faster when i change it to second gear. I take off, then it goes VRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRROM for ever then catches. Any Ideas where i can check on this bad boy? Someone told me it might be the catalytic converter not allowing it to breathe. Is this why, or any other ideas? thanks alot guys.
Well in being a 5 spd, the rpms will naturally be lower when you change gears, it doesnt catch at the same rpm.
You very well may need a new cat, I did and it gave me more power and better fuel milage. and just for shits n giggles, if you don't have to orry about smog tests, bypas the egr by making a block off plate and removing and plugging the vaccum line going to it.
hey canadiancelia - i was thinking about blocking my egr, but i didnt know if anyone had tried it yet. the way i see it, the only side effect (apart from emissions) is going to be higher combustion temp so more risk of detonation. i think that would be fine tho with high octane. did you notice much difference though?
I shift good, Its the car I'm TELLING YOU... I don't have any modifications done on the engine at all. I got the car like this all Skrewed up. I know how to power shift, just when i do it it SLOWLY catches up like it was going to die out on me.

no troubles what so ever.....as for combustion temps, they shouyld be lower, no exhaust, exhuast is HOT. lol
Nopes, actually the EGR system reintroduces exhaust gas into the combustion chamber to reduce the temperature. the more exhaust gas in there, the less room for oxygen. therefore the burning process doesnt go as rapidly, this is how you get less NOx emissions. With the higher temp there is more chance of detonation, but the way i see it, more oxygen is a good thing so its worth a try.
hahahahaha, makes sense. But none the less, I have no isses, now, I also have a cool air intake and a very very open exhaust system, so it's flowing better then it ever has and with no EGR set up and an atmosphere vented PCV system, this thing runs betrer then it has in the last 3 years I've owned it.
Still waiting to get my newer injectors in, it might not be getting enough fuel now, so it might start to detonate after I do that. lol. Bud sadly theyhave to wait, I hvae bad water pump bearings, so I will be doing that and the timing belt in the near future.
