Timing marks 3s-fe 1989

I had my water pump replaced, when i got it back I had no power.

Being the holiday weekend, the shop was already closed when I got home. I decided to pop the belt cover and take a peak. I saw that the cam sprocket was lined up with a vertical line on the cam bearing cap (while crank at 0). BUT....one inch away from that line was a nice small round shallow dot that would fall directly under the hole on my cam sprocket. So which is it? My chiltion book shows no lines just holes. But heres the catch. That nice little shallow hole on the cam bearing cap, is not located straight up at 12 oclock on the block. I think its more like 10 oclock.

I loosened the belt and put a wrench on the cam and turned it while maintaining the crank at zero until the two holes lined up perfectly (the teeth jumped the belt grooves as i turned it, making a loud snap sound eact time). I havent done anything more than that. I am afraid to start it, because I dont know if I could damage valve stems. I was assuming that the crank at zero was with #1 at TDC but I really dont know if it was or if I was out one revolution.

Can anyone help me?

the little dimple is supposed to be lined up with the line at 12 o' and the crank should be at 0. since replacing the water pump requires the timing belt to be removed, you should get it back there and make them finish the job.

Timing belt

the cam bearing cap has a line at 12 oclock but at 10 oclock there is a small shallow hole in the bearing cap. My chiltons book shows a cirlce on the sprocket lined up with a dot on the bearing cap. Chiltons does not refer to it as a dot but rather as an alignment mark. Perhaps that small hole at 10 oclock is not for anything. Anyway, I lined it up on the line at 12 oclock and it starts up ok and runs smooth but after i travel down the street a bit I lose power as it warms up. Im really about to take it to the junk yard, reluctantly.
