Question Switching A/C in '91 Celica GT from R12 to R134a?

My brother has a '91 Celica GT with the 2.2. It has the stock R12 system that was working good up till a year ago and quit. It gets REAL HOT IN KC so he needs A/C. But the car has been hit pretty bad and he only wanst to keep it for another year, so does not want to put R12 in it. What will he need to convert it to R134a???

No convertion needed. There are refill that you can use which is compatible with R12 system. Go to AC shop and ask. If you got a vaccum pump, you can refill it yourself. Don't let anyone talk you into "converting" the compressor to use R134a. Its all BS. It should cost you for the refill and seal any leaks only.

Cool?

OK, so what is this brand of R134a that IS COMPATABLE WITH R12 SYSTEMs?? All the backs of teh bottles I have read said you have to purge the system of R12 to put R134a in?? Can I get a local show to BUY the remaining R12 out of my system before I put R134a in?

You'll need to purge/vaccum all the old gas from your AC. You'll need to seal the system for any leak also. Then you can refill it. Get a shop to do it. You can't just let the gas leak out, moisture will get into the system.
