thanks for the reply marcuslogsdon i really dont know if it is slow i havent goten the car home yet the owner raves about it but people online say the car sucks and has no potential it has less than fifty thousand on a rebuilt moter im wandering what moter is in it exactly and if i can build performance on a budget whithout swaping moters do these moters and cars have potential to be a potent street racer thanks again

i dont know how much research you have done on the celica motors but you can make any motor get up and go if you have the money. personaly i would look into the differences between the 3sge and the 3sgte motors. im not sure if they changed rods, crank, pistons, or any head mods but if they didnt it would be really easy to slap a turbo on that 3sge motor. but then again it may be more cost effective to just do an engine swap. its one of thoes things. personaly i would sell it and buy a newer celica!! the newer version of the 3sgte motor is pretty powerful and has quite a bit of potential!!! make sure you get the GT or GT-S modle though! if you get an ST you will be stuck in a hole!!!!!

What's fast to you?

ok, the 3SGE DOES have potential. Since it is an extreme rarity not alot of USDM parts are availble. I've been able to track down a decent number of parts for it. You can make her pretty beefy on top and the bottom is stought enough from the factory to handle nitrous in moderate doses if you choose to go that route. If you are serious about it then do some research OUTSIDE of ToyotaNation and ToyotaCelicas. They aren't going to be much help. Us 3SGE guys are few and far between

Thus far, I've been able to track down full exhausts, intake, cams, cam gears and minor suspension stuff. All the major parts (cams, gears, pistons, etc) will be coming from Japan or New Zealand.

Just look around the net. If you get stuck and CAN'T find anything, hit me up and I'll point you in the right direction. But try to find it out on your own.

EDIT: And do me a favor and keep it off the streets. Street racing is gay and stupid.

first let me clear up the street racing thing i didnt mean real street racing there isnt a import community were i live AT ALL. I wouldnt anyway to dangerous, just ment if i have any fun with someone at a stoplight would like to feel confident. So how can i tell if my motor is a 3sge or a 3sgte or any of the other motors i have heard come in the 86 gts? are there tell tale signs from one to the other? I am almost positive it is the original motor. Its a 5 speed and a liftback

ok..
1. to tell a 3sge from a 3sgte you will see a nice little turbo and intercooler.
2. go to www.4gcelica.net those guys are very helpful.

find the sticker on the hood that tells you what engine it is. If the hood hasnt been replaced there should be a sticker with the vacuum hose routing on it. ON the bottom of the sticker will be the engine series. If the hood has been replaced and the sticker is not there you may look on the timing belt cover I know some of them have it stamped into that.

You'll only get the 3S-GTE if its an AllTrac.
The 3S-GE is NOT a lowend torquey engine so you'll have to learn how to launch it. Just flooring the padel won't be the fastest way to get off the line.

the motor has more potential than you would afford to bring out, it has mor airflow potential than a big block chevy and is made to run at very hi rpm or a turbo. in street form you have to close off part of the intake manifold to give it any low rpm power or find a later head with the large intake ports and dump the tvis and replace the huge port head with the large port one, the large port head is a much better head to build all around power and will still make great hi rpm power. The motor in racing form will go past 1000 hp but the only thing that came origionally on the motor is the block and head casting itself, the block casting is blowproof and all 3s blocks are the same casting, now the g stands for the head design, the f is the economy design, you can interchange the heads on the blocks, but what ever touches the head goes with it including manifolding and the pistons and rods are different, I have a ton of 3sge motor parts if ya need any more info on them, the trick is, get it wound up and get the air through it, if the rods stay on the crank it will go

Thanks for the info fredk sounds like you know what your talking about on the 3sge motor. Hope you dont mind me asking ???? while im trying to build this car. First of all where do i need to start do i HAVE to do internal work since the moter was just rebuilt top and bottom(so the owner said)but he is a friend of mine.Only 50 thousand since rebuild!! Because this is my first import and the body is real ruff if it is possabl to get power without pulling the motor and doing major work i would like to stick with that route on my first try. I plan on buying somthing newer to go full bore on but i still want to kick some camaro butt with this gts Where should i start ???? hope you can help
