Talking Power Loss Overheating = Bad Catalytic Converter

AFTER WORKING ON MY 1989 CELICA ST FOR THREE WEEK WHICH STARTED OUT WITH A NEW DISTRIBUTOR THEN A NEW WATER PUMP AND TIMING BELT THEN THE ONSET OF HOT FLORIDA WEATHER, I COULDNT FIGURE OUT WHY ALL OF A SUDDEN MY CAR LOST POWER IN THIS HEAT, AND THE CAR WAS OVERHEATING. I TRIED EVERYTHING INCLUDING NEW WIRES, CAP, ROTOR, PLUGS, RAD CAP, WATER PUMP, DISTRIBUTOR. NO BAD COMPUTER CODES TO HELP ME OUT. FRED FROM FLORIDA GAVE ME THE BIG DIAGNOSIS AFTER I TOLD HIM NOTHING HAPPENED WHEN I STEPPED ON THE GAS.

IT WAS THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER (ON THE BLOCK)!!!

AFTER A COUPLE OF HOURS WITH A VACUUM PIPE AND A HAMMER, I CLEANED OUT THE GUTS AND FIRED IT UP.

HOLY CRAP BATMAN. ITS FASTER THAN RAPED APE. AND IT DOESNT EVEN COME CLOSE TO RUNNING HOT ANYMORE.

I JUST WANTED TO POST THIS IN CASE SOMEONE ELSE IS HAVING A SIMILAR PROBLEM.

tHANKS FRED! I OWE YOU.
