I was just about to sell my car when I thought, gee I should wash the engine compartment. This was the biggest mistake. For some reason now my car does not want to start that well. After about a 1/2 hour when I finally get it going, it will idle nice, but when you apply the gas fast it wants to stall; however, when I slowly apply the gas it will rev up fine. I have checked the dis cap, plugs and wires, cleaned the fuel injector, cleaned all inside the butterfly value (located just after the air intake) changed the oil. I am at a loss as what else it could be. Has anyone had similar issues before?
when you rev it, your engine draws the fuel from there to expend that fuel, and if it was full of water, it would idle just fine on fuel from the gas tank, but then when you pin it, you would be drawing water from the evap container and wreaking havoc
try taking off the hoses from the evap container and just stoppering them, pinch em' off or whatever, then run it....
Well I still have not been able to make any progress in making the car run smoothly or starting easier. The compression is good and the evaporative canister is good as well. Wouldn't the spark plugs be wet if I was trying to start it for awhile? I noticed that they are dry when I pull them out, they are somewhat carboned up most likely to the turning over process. I am thinking it might be something to do with the injectors, suggestions? I really don't want to spend alot of cash just to sell it, but what can I do.
Like EggBeater59 said. check for any error codes. if nothing comes up then it could be something mechanical. if a code pops up, you should get a good idea of what sensor need to be replaced or fixed.
Thanks for all your suggestions. It ended up being a cracked rotor in the distributor. I looked at it earlier and couldn't fine anything wrong. After spending a few bucks to get it diagnosed all it needed was an $11.00 part go figure.
